Is it just an itchy scalp?

We had a beautiful middle school girl in for treatment today.  She had long, thick hair down to her “bottom” and had been referred to us by an astute school nurse.

Tammy (name has been changed) explained that she’d been itching for several weeks but thought that it was a change in shampoo.  By the time she came to us, her case was probably two months old and characterized by numerous adult bugs, nymphs and thousands of nits.

We filled 10 bowls with what was removed via the lice comb before we started to strand by strand nit pick (analyzing each piece of hair).   At one point, Tammy even fell asleep (note to those who ask if the treatment is uncomfortable.)  Her mother was astounding and so supportive of the entire process.

So the question is – “Is it just an itchy scalp or really head lice?”  But the answer is not clear cut.  So so frequently, it is indeed JUST an itchy scalp.  As a matter of fact, as you may be doing when reading this, often, just the mention of the words “head lice” inspires the “fingernails to head” action.

If you suspect head lice, call or text us at 404-704-2200 for an appointment for a $10 head check or get a good lice comb and comb thoroughly.

And remember – catching a case of head lice early renders treatment so much easier and minimizes the risk of passing it on to someone else.
